What causes MS?
The cause of MS is not known until now, but thousands of researchers around the world bring side by side pieces of the complicated puzzle game. Destruction of myelin coating in MS may be an abnormal reaction of the immunitary system, which normally protects the body from microorganisms (bacteria and viruses).
Many of the characteristics of MS suggest that this would be a "self-immunity " disease, after which the body attacks its own cells and tissues, if MS is involved myelin.
Researchers do not know which is why the immune system attacks myelin, but is believed to be a combination of causes. There is the theory that a virus found dormant in the body plays a role in disease development and may cause disordered immune system or indirectly auto-immune process. Many researches were made to identify virus SM.
It seems that there is no MS virus, but a common virus, like that of measles or herpes, which activates MS. Following this activation, white blood cells are produced (lymphocytes) that enter the brain and destroy its system of defense. Once entered in the brain these cells activate other elements of the immune system in a way that they begin to attack and destroy myelin coating.
